How do I access climbing routes?

Information on climbing routes and trails is available at the kiosk, in the printed climbing guide, or on the Mountain Project website. To access climbing routes once you arrive at Jamestown Crag, you’ll take a short hike from the kiosk. You can go North to the Dog Walk trail or head South to the Climb In, a rebar ladder that drops you in on the Natural Disaster Wall. You can also rappel in on routes that are accessible from the top of the bluff. For an easier option, you can hike South past the Climb In on the Goat Trail. This is the easiest path for animals and children.

What do I do in an emergency?

Call 911 and then call the Nomads at 870-613-4662. The nearest hospital is White River Medical Center located in Batesville, a 20 minute drive from Jamestown Crag.

How do I find Never Never Land?

Never Never Land is accessible from the Main Bluff parking area by taking the Goat Trail down the bluff and heading South. Visitors can also park near Never Never Land by following the road to the left, past Main Bluff parking. Keep to the right and head West to a small field parking area. Never Never Land is a short hike from here.

Where is the nearest town?

Southside is a 10-15 drive from Jamestown Crag on Highway 67/167 and has gas stations, a grocery store, and a few restaurant options. Batesville is a few minutes north of Southside, a 20 minute drive from Jamestown Crag, and has more restaurant, shopping, hotel, and Airbnb options. Some restaurants in Batesville serve alcohol, but Jamestown Crag is in a dry county, so plan accordingly.

When is King of the Crag?

King of the Crag is held in the fall (October or November) each year. We post detailed information about the event on our Facebook page. Visit Jamestown Crag on Facebook to find out about this year’s event.

Where can I camp?

There are several camping sites a short walk from the Main Bluff parking area. All camping sites are primitive: no electrical hookups or water are available. Fires should only be built in the established fire circles at each site. Please leave no trace and pack out all trash from your campsite. We ask that campers donate $5 per night to assist with maintaining the campsites.

Where can I hike or bike?

There is a multi-use trail system that loops around the bluff. To access the trail from the Main Bluff parking area, head past the camping area to the kiosk. From there, you can head North to the Dog Walk. Dog Walk may be difficult for both dogs and children. For an easier hike, head South from the kiosk toward the Goat Trail. This is the easiest path but is mostly slanted sandstone and can be slippery if wet. Children may need assistance with the small ledges at the bottom of the bluff.

Are there bathrooms at Jamestown Crag?

There are porta-potties at the Main Bluff parking area. Beware of bugs in the warmer months.

Do I have to make a donation?

Jamestown Crag is a not-for-profit recreation area. The trail system, climbing routes, campsites, and other features are maintained by the Nomads. Donations are used for maintenance, new trail and route projects, and other costs associated with maintaining the Jamestown Crag recreation area. We suggest a donation of $3 per person per day and $5 to camp. You can donate online or at the kiosk near the parking area.
